1Who we are
PIL Mobi is the responsible party for personal information processed through the PIL Mobi SEO Suite, as defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Our Information Officer can be reached at support@pilmobi.com.
2What we collect
Account details
Business name, contact person, email address, cell and phone number, address, default website, the logo you upload, and your password.
Websites and reports
The website addresses you add, the keywords you enter, and what our crawler finds on the public pages of those websites (page addresses, titles, problems found and scores).
Payments
PayStack handles all card payments. We receive and keep the payment reference, amount, date and status, and PayStack's customer and subscription codes. We never receive or store your card number.
NetWatch
When you use NetWatch we record connection events (drop-outs, weak signal, recovery), latency, your internet (IP) address, your browser and device type (user agent), and an approximate town and internet provider looked up from your IP address.
Device Health
We record information your browser reports about the device: operating system and browser, number of processor cores, approximate memory, browser storage, screen size, network type and battery level, plus the name you give the device and the totals of a scan (for example the number and size of junk files found and freed). The scan of your files happens on your own device. File names, paths and contents are never sent to us, apart from the name of the top folder you chose to scan.
Spam Detective
When you report spam we keep the number, email address, SMS sender or website that contacted you, what was marketed, when and how often, the company name they used, the message you paste and any screenshot you add. If you report for someone else, we keep their name and the contact details they were contacted on, which you confirm they agreed to. Other users only see the reported number or address and totals — never who reported it. We use these reports to show patterns, prepare your opt-out letter and complaint pack, and to decide (after review) whether to name a company. Screenshots are stored where they cannot be opened from the internet and are only shown to you and PIL Mobi. If a company disputes a listing, we keep their reply to handle it.
PIL PC Clean (Windows program)
The PIL PC Clean program works only on your PC and does not send any information to us. It keeps a log of what it did in your own user folder.
Technical information
Like all websites, our server logs the IP address, date and time and pages requested, for security and troubleshooting.
3Why we use it
- To create and run your account and provide the service you subscribed to (performance of the contract).
- To bill your subscription and keep financial records (contract and legal obligations).
- To send you service emails, such as your welcome email, payment problems and important changes (contract).
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse and fix problems (our legitimate interests).
- Spam Detective: to help you and others stop unlawful direct marketing and to support complaints to the authorities (your request, and the legitimate interest of the people being contacted).
- To improve the service using totals and trends that do not identify you (legitimate interests).
We only send marketing messages if you have agreed to receive them, and you can opt out at any time.
4Who we share it with
We share personal information only with service providers who need it to deliver the service, under agreements that require them to protect it:
- PayStack — payment processing (name, email, payment details you enter on PayStack's page);
- our hosting provider — stores the database and files;
- Google PageSpeed Insights — receives the website addresses being checked (no personal details);
- ip-api.com — receives your IP address to estimate town and internet provider for NetWatch;
- our email provider — to deliver service emails;
- the company you send a Spam Detective opt-out letter to — the letter includes the name and contact details to be removed from their lists.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it. We never sell or rent your personal information.
5Information sent outside South Africa
Some of these providers (for example Google, PayStack and ip-api.com) may process information outside South Africa. We only use providers that are subject to laws, binding rules or agreements that give a level of protection similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.
6How long we keep it
- Account details and reports: while your account is open and for 12 months after it is closed, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Payment records: 5 years, as tax law requires.
- NetWatch and Device Health history: until you delete it in the app, or 12 months after your account is closed.
- Server logs: up to 90 days.
7How we protect it
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), access controls so that each client sees only their own information, protection against automated sign-in attempts, and restricted access to our servers. If a security breach affects your personal information, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.
8Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you and to give you a copy, correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. You can update most details yourself on My details, and delete NetWatch history in NetWatch. For anything else, email support@pilmobi.com. We may need to confirm your identity first.
9Cookies and storage on your device
We use one essential session cookie to keep you signed in. The app also keeps a few settings in your browser's storage (such as a random device ID for Device Health and app files so it opens quickly). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. Our pages load fonts and styles from Google Fonts, jsDelivr and cdnjs, which receive your IP address when they send those files.
10Children
The service is for businesses and is not meant for anyone under 18.
11Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version, and we will email you about important changes.
